  • Exotic Tropical Delight: The Ice Cream Bean tree, scientifically known as Inga edulis, is a captivating addition to any landscape. Hailing from the lush landscapes of South America, this fast-growing leguminous tropical fruit tree brings an air of exoticism to your surroundings.

  • Fascinating Bean Pods: The Ice Cream Bean tree boasts bean pods that reach an impressive average length of about one foot, adding a touch of wonder to your garden. These elongated pods hold a delightful secret within, promising a unique and indulgent experience for your taste buds.

  • Snowy White, Cotton Candy Pulp: Peel open the bean pods to reveal a mesmerizing sight – the snow-white, cotton candy-textured pulp. With a sweetness reminiscent of vanilla ice cream, this luscious interior offers a delectable treat straight from nature's dessert menu.

  • Roasted Seeds, Nutritional Riches: Beneath the surface, the Ice Cream Bean tree holds even more treasures. When roasted, its seeds become a protein-packed delicacy, adding a nutritious twist to your culinary ventures. Note that while roasted seeds offer a delightful snack, raw consumption is not recommended.

  • Healthful Bounty: Beyond its enchanting flavor, the Ice Cream Bean tree offers a wealth of health benefits. The cottony pulp contains dietary fiber, polyphenols, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds, making it a natural source of wellness that you can enjoy straight from your garden.

  • Natural Soil Enhancement: Embrace the role of an environmental steward with the Ice Cream Bean tree's remarkable nitrogen-fixing abilities. As it grows, this tree enriches the surrounding soil, contributing to a healthier ecosystem and demonstrating its commitment to sustainable growth.

  • Pruning for Abundance: Enhance your harvest by practicing strategic tree care. Pruning during late winter or early spring not only opens up the canopy for better fruit exposure but also stimulates robust fruit growth, ensuring a bountiful yield to savor.

  • Pacay Variety: Explore the longer fruit variant of the Ice Cream Bean tree with the Pacay variety (Inga edulis). Distinguishable from its shorter and stubbier counterpart, Inga feuilleei, this variety promises a unique visual appeal and a distinct experience for the palate.

  • Your Tropical Oasis: Transform your outdoor space into a tropical oasis with the Ice Cream Bean tree. Its rapid growth, delectable pods, and nutritional riches make it a captivating choice for those seeking a harmonious blend of beauty, taste, and wellness.

Impressive Growth

I live in Central Florida and wow this plant arrived looking healthy on March 7th and is now around 7 feet tall, and doing lovely planted in my side yard, only 51 days later. I would recommend providing it with some support to prevent it from bending over too much as it takes some time for the main trunk to thicken up. What a lovely tree!
