When I first received this plant, there was some mechanical damage to the leaves and a black spot to the stem. It initially felt okay but then maybe a day or two later that area was soft, more black, and the leaves had all dried up. I had this plant in the shade due to high temps in the area. The soil was still wet after a few days of receipt. I had not watered it yet. I cut off the damaged leaves and the mushy part of the stem. Then kept it in shade, watered once after the soil dried, and it appears to have a couple of tiny leaf growths. It has been a full month since receipt, and the tiny growth hasnt budged. I am planning on checking the root system and planting it in ground once temps have lowered. I am hopeful the rot hasnt spread. The stem is firm, and no black spots on it. Just concerned it will continue to debilitate but maybe this kind of banana plant does not take to shipment and different climes? For reference, I am in zone 9A. There are banana trees in my area grown in-ground successfully. Unfortunately I don’t know when the rot started, but it could not have been after 1-2 days here, especially when I did not water it. I took off all the plastic wrap when I first got it too. Hoping it makes it, but I’m a bit disappointed. (I bought two mangoes, avocado, and two sugar apple trees from here and the only one that is doing decent after a month is my second sugar apple. I’m certain three trees died. Avocado is leafless but struggling to adapt. Then this banana… maybe the transitions have been too rough for most of these?)
Already put in the ground and growing nicely.
The banana plant has exploded with growth upon repotting and is already producing pups!
