Key Features

Striated flamingo-pink and burgundy variegated foliage; evergreen; multi-stemmed upright habit; tropical good-luck plant; excellent container, landscape, or houseplant; vivid year-round color.

Special considerations

Toxic if ingested - keep away from cats, dogs, and children. Can cause contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals. Not drought-tolerant despite high heat tolerance.

Growing and Care Instructions

Plant in rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5-6.5) high in organic matter. Prefers humidity of 40-60% and temperatures between 65-95F. Shelter from strong wind, which tears the leaves. Do not prune except to remove dieback, as it does not respond well to pruning.

  • Fertilizing

Feed several times per year with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season to maintain vivid leaf color.

  • Watering

Keep soil evenly moist but never waterlogged; allow the top to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering from late fall through late winter. Sensitive to root rot - avoid standing water. Use rain or distilled water where possible, as the plant is sensitive to fluoride in tap water.

  • Light Requirements

Bright indirect light to partial shade; tolerates full sun (richer color) to dense shade. Filtered light gives the best foliage display.
